CWA Announces Indoor Climbing Industry Study

How big is the indoor climbing market? How much has the industry grown, and how much is it projected to grow? What are the biggest factors in the industry's success? These seem like basic questions, but there is a massive shortage of reliable, accurate data to help answer them – a problem that comes up often with our members and partners.


In an effort to better understand and quantify the indoor climbing market, the CWA is launching a first-of-its-kind survey to gather accurate industry data and create benchmarking tools for our members. As part of this process, we have contracted with an independent research firm, Campbell Rinker, to assist with survey design, programming and data analysis. Campbell Rinker will be the custodian of the data collected.


In the next few weeks, we will begin collecting information, by survey, about the indoor climbing industry in North America. If you believe this information would be useful, please participate in the survey process. The greater the number of participants, the better and more accurate the results will be.


The survey covers topics such as finance, programming, products, pricing, and risk management. It is split into two parts, one for general company information and one for facility-specific information, which is replicated for each facility your organization owns or operates. We've made it easy to gather your information offline by filling out a PDF worksheet, which you can distribute internally if necessary. Depending on how readily available this information is to you, it should take approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours to complete.


Once the data has been gathered, we will create and publish the first annual Indoor Climbing Industry Report. Current CWA members will receive member pricing on any reports we publish. Additionally, participants in the survey process will receive complimentary access to an online portal comparing their answers to the aggregated industry benchmarks. They will also benefit from special pricing on a customized printable report with in-depth analysis of their company's data. It will be important for a variety of companies to share information about their businesses, so that an accurate picture of the industry can be made available.


We will not use the information collected from your survey for anything other than producing aggregated reports that characterize the indoor climbing industry generally. Any personally identifiable information from your survey response will be removed from any and all published reports. Any other material you provide will be held in confidence, in a secure environment, by Campbell Rinker.
