The special all ages event features Professional Climbers, a Climbing Fitness Challenge, and ½ Price Admission.

Omaha, NE (August 1, 2016) – On Saturday, August 27, Approach, Nebraska’s first commercial gym dedicated entirely to climbing, will celebrate it’s 1-year anniversary by hosting an all-day special event featuring professional athletes, a “Climbing Fitness Challenge,” and ½ price admission. Local music (Michael Fitzsimmons), live DJ (Brent Crampton), food trucks (Johnny Ricco’s Brooklyn Pizza and Prairie Fire Pizza), craft beer (Farnam House Brewing Co.), product demos (by FrictionLabs and Five Ten), and a raffle with climbing gear prizes round out the fun-filled day.

Approach, in partnership with adidas Outdoor, is proud to present Pro Climbers Chelsea Rude and Jon Cardwell for a feature presentation at 8 P.M. on the sport of climbing followed by Q & A sessions. Rude, who is currently ranked top 10 in the world for both sport climbing and bouldering, will lead a presentation on the “Allure of Climbing.” Cardwell will recap his climbing journey on Biographie at Ceuse in France. Biographie (aka Realization) is one of the most famous sport climbs in the world and only 13-climbers have completed the project with Cardwell being the most recent in 2016. Pre-ceding the presentations will be a meet and greet and poster signing at 7:00 P.M.

The “Climbing Fitness Challenge” is open to all ages and free to enter for Approach Members or with paid admission (½ price Anniversary Day Pass & Rentals). The five-challenges include: crate stacking, dyno, campus board, static hang, and traverse climbing. Prizes will be awarded for both adult and youth. Additionally, Training Clinics (for Members Only) will be led bynRude and Cardwell to help support one of the core values of Approach which is the mantra that “Members Take Priority.”
Currently, Approach has over 250-Members, nearly double the conservative goals for the first year in operation.

“Opening a climbing gym had long been a part of Sarahjoy’s dream, and after she developed a business plan for nearly a decade while working as an Engineer, we decided to make it a reality by returning to our hometown from the foothills of Golden, CO in October 2013. Early response was tremendous with a sold-out Charter Membership Campaign. These funds from enthusiastic climbers in the community truly helped get a small business up and open,” said Brian S. Allen of Approach.

Approach, dedicated to building climbers, has programming for ages 2 and up including: Youth Programs, Adult Instructional Classes, Camps, and Climbing Competitions. Popular Members Only perks include Yoga, discounts on Pro Shop and concessions purchases, private parties, and exclusive savings at partner businesses in Greater Omaha. Community partnerships with local non-profits help get underserved youth into the climbing gym and working together with organizations like QLI have prompted the development of an adaptive program that helps accommodate those with physical and cognitive impairments any day of the week.

“The core values of Approach drive every decision we make whether it be with our community partners, the hiring of climbing instructors and route setters, hours of operations, selling locally made edibles, or gear selection in our Pro Shop. The
1-year anniversary is no different as it aligns with a key mission of educating all users of the benefits and responsibilities of climbing both indoors and outside. Who knows, maybe the next Olympian (the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Committee voted yes) is out there in our own backyard climbing a tree and he or she needs a place to train. The flip side is climbing can also be a family friendly past time or a great tool for any athlete to cross train with. Our 1-year event is a snapshot of the versatility Approach offers not only the climbing community, but also the Greater Omaha community as a whole,” added Allen.

The feature presentations on the Sport & Allure of Climbing with adidas Outdoor Athletes Chelsea Rude and Jon Cardwell will be held from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 27 at Approach Climbing Gym located at 4923 S. 72nd St. Omaha, NE 68127. The presentation is Free to attend (note – all guests climbing or not must have a Visitor Agreement on file). Media Representatives are encouraged to attend either between 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. for the feature or between 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. (Training Clinics for Approach Members followed by an Athlete Signing at 12:00 P.M. plus live interactive drumming). A third alternative option for Media coverage is between 2:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. to witness the all age competitors in the “Climbing Fitness Challenge .”
